In the North-East explore the caves of the
dusty plains of Guadix, fish in trout rivers below pine covered
mountains, or bathe in natural hot springs. In the West, savour
the contrast of silver and red as the mountains reveal row
upon row of silvery leaved olive trees, a beautiful contrast
to the terracotta soil. Here and there small towns and dusty
villages spring to view. South-East, the Sierra Nevada, snow-covered
for at least half the year and boasting the highest peak in
mainland Spain, is an ideal location for all mountain sports.
High on its southern slopes are the "lost villages"
of the Alpujarras - well worth the "four-wheel"
drive.
